About the maker.

Christiane Kersten is a ceramicist based in Worthing. She says 'Generally I enjoy working in small batches and am drawn to making functional items such as bowls, vases, mugs and decorations - an element of repetitiveness gives me the opportunity to refine a skill and to improve on the subtleties of a form.'
After many years of making pots by slip-casting clay into plaster moulds Christiane returned to how she was originally trained in ceramics and started throwing pots on the wheel again. Simple forms and clean lines are something she is am drawn to, some of the shapes are inspired by playing and experimenting with paper models. Her stay in Japan has opened her eyes to the aesthetics of Japanese ceramic culture - She is trying to embrace the idea that imperfections and asymmetric forms can have their own beauty.
