Beakers by Grace McCarthy

Hand thrown small bowls in neutral glazes. Ideal for snacks or simply to admire in your home. They are reduction fired with each varying in shape and pattern due to the processes and handmade nature of each piece. Grace's work is simple, functional and beautiful.

Hand thrown Stoneware. Glazes are food safe and are dishwasher safe but hand washing is advised.

Dimensions:

• Beaker 1 - 8.5 x 7 cm approximately.
• Beaker 2 - 9 x 7.5 cm approximately.
• Beaker 3 - 9 x 7.5 cm  approximately.
• Beaker 4 - 8.5 x 7 cm cm approximately.

The beakers weigh between 170 and 180g each.

About the maker.

Grace McCarthy has been making ceramics for the past 10 years. She was part of the first cohort at Clay College Stoke, a course developed from a successful apprenticeship scheme which aims to train the next generation of studio potters. Whilst studying there, she learned a great number of skills and firing techniques that have changed and developed her work greatly. 

A lot of what influences her work is the raw clay and the firing process; the relationship between both of these elements is what excites Grace about ceramics. Seeing how one reacts to the other. She loves capturing this in the functional pottery that she makes.

Following Three Dimensional Design at Camberwell College of Art where Grace was able to explore a range of materials, in her final year, she became particularly interested in ceramics. After graduation, she became a technician at Turning Earth whilst selling her work all over the UK further afield.
